netezza.com Primary Objective: The Senior Systems Engineer will :Evaluate, maintain, integrate, test and troubleshoot components in large networked computer systems.

These components may include: industry standard servers (rack-mount & blade), storage arrays, networking switches, storage switches, adapter cards and management software.

Analyze issues at the system level as it pertains to the above components, and work cross-functionally with vendors, software developers, customer support and manufacturing to resolve those issues.

Assist with analysis related to hardware & system design and development Assist in evaluating the impact of hardware performance.

This position works with supervision and relies on pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Accountability/Scope (range of responsibilities): This individual reports to a Manager of Engineering.

This individual will be held accountable in understanding the life cycle and product deliverables of the area in which they work.

This person must be self-motivated and self-directed and take a positive approach to working in a team environment.

This person must be comfortable participating in multiple projects at the same time and be able to manage his/her time accordingly.

This individual usually consults with their manager.

This individual does not supervise other employees.

Design is typically reviewed by manager or more Sr. Engineers.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities: · Work under close supervision to design, configure and integrate hardware products for large-scale data management systems · Evaluate, verify functionality and measure performance of servers, processors, memory & I/O, Linux OS kernels, device drivers and packages · Evaluate, verify functionality and measure performance of disks and other storage, internal and external disk arrays, storage networking switches, HBAs and other storage subsystems · Evaluate, verify functionality and measure performance of networking components such as switches and NICs · Set up experiments to reproduce issues seen in field installations in order to determine root-cause.

· Work with hardware vendors to drive root cause analysis of faults discovered during qualification of components · Contribute to the system development lifecycle including specification, design, review, implementation, and creation of the development test plans for each project undertaken.

· Contribute to a subsystem and be responsible for reviewing and approving all proposed changes.

· Participate in concept, design, and reviews for projects within his or her immediate area of expertise.

· Write and maintain documentation to describe program development, testing, changes, and corrections · Fix bugs and add minor enhancements · Provide assistance to the sustaining, customer support, and system engineering organizations Skills Required: · Problem solving skills · Critical Analysis skills · Communication skills · Interpersonal skills · Organizational skills · Time Management skills · Eye for detail · Ability to work in a fast-paced environment · Willingness to learn about new technologies and pick up new skills · Familiarity with server, storage & networking hardware, blade server systems & virtualization · Familiarity with storage technologies such as SCSI, FiberChannel, SAS & SATA · Familiarity with Unix scripting, especially PERL is highly desirableFamiliarity working with Linux basic system administration, and diagnostics and tools pertaining to the storage subsystem – is highly desirable Desired Job Experience: · Bachelors and 5-8 years experience or Masters and 3-5 years experience building and delivering commercial hardware storage products or equivalent Desired Education: BS/MS Degree in Computer Science or related field Minimum Physical Requirements: Office environment, no special physical demands required.

Must be prepared to do some installation of equipment in a datacenter environment.
