Desktop administrator
The candidate will be responsible for the development, administration and support of all IT infrastructure (80% desktop, 20% server administration) in particular Win2000 and Network Architecture. You will be expected to manage infrastructure projects from inception to deployment, defining all levels of requirements analysis through to support. The job holder will participate and liaise frequently with all members of the Company .
Specific Responsibilities
System Administration
- Maintain and direct administration of Desktops with some server administration in Windows 2000/2003 environments. Ensure appropriate controls and procedures are in place to ensure networks are secure.
- Devise, maintain and adhere to standard operating procedures for the deployment of IT equipment, ensuring an accurate inventory of hardware and software is maintained.
- Maintain and enhance backup systems for all resources using Veritas Backup Exec.
- Maintain an effective anti-virus policy to ensure network is not adversely affected by virus infection.
- Administer Internet access, infrastructure and security systems.
- Devise and implement software deployment procedures.
- Assist in managing remote access systems.
- Continually analyze and critically assess all aspects of infrastructure, support provision etc. and motivate improvements.
Develop standards and procedures to ensure the maximum level of availability of critical systems.
Administer business applications where appropriate, providing end-user training to devolve responsibility as and when appropriate.
- Liaise with third party suppliers (application authors, maintenance organizations) to ensure support requirements are maintained.
Implementations
- Manage technical projects as directed by the US IT Manager from conception to deployment.
- Assess technical and support requirements and liaise with appropriate support personnel on the approach and resources necessary to fulfil the requirements. Take responsibility for ensuring that the necessary technical facilities are available.
- Assist the Business when identifying the best software available to the business.
- Ensure that all systems selected or developed comply with Information Security policies.
Support
Monitor both technical and business developments as directed by the US IT Manager .
Advise the business on appropriate user training.
Assist in the development of technical strategies and manage implementation projects to achieve the objectives of such a strategy
- Undertake evaluation and selection of packaged solutions in response to business requirements and deploy effectively.
- Provide 2nd / 3rd line support for the technical infrastructure and resolve complex problems as they arise.
Devise, maintain and test plans and procedures to ensure business continuity in the event of a technical disaster (DRP) or similar threat.
Skills
- Extensive knowledge of Windows 2000 system administration and support (mostly desktop) including XP. Win Server 2003 is a plus
- Software deployment strategies.
- Some administering Exchange 2000. Exchange 2003 is a plus.
- Knowledge of ERP systems administration would be extremely advantageous.
- Experience administering Citrix Server Farm is a plus
- Knowledge of SAP basic administration would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of MS-Office and other popular packaged software applications.
- Have a basic awareness of the activities and techniques associated with Strategic IT Development, Infrastructure Planning and Implementation.
- Knowledge of remote access technology, VPN, Citrix.
- Strong Project Management, Business Process experience.
- Familiarity with MS Access, SQL and basic database administration is a plus.
- Knowledgeable of the Dell Server, PC and laptop product line.
- Strong desktop support and troubleshooting experience.
Qualifications and previous experience
Educated to degree level or equivalent, preferably in Computer Science, Information Systems or a numerate discipline. Extensive previous experience in providing technical support, implementation and development within Win2000 environments
